Honesty

A 1 track soul single (5m 32s) — released July 4th 2025 on Extra Soul Perception

Setwun returns with his debut release for the Extra Soul Perception label.

'Honesty' is the first track from a forthcoming EP entitled 'Visions in Venus', a four-track vinyl EP that brings together elements of jazz, soul, and electronic music into something direct yet expansive.

Created from his living room through the pandemic when clubs were no longer attainable, Setwun took a much more organic and introspective approach to his songwriting. Deeply inspired from psych-soul sounds of a bygone era, the result was something distinctly new in his multifarious palette.

For fans of SAULT, Michael Kiwanuka, or Me'shell Ndegeocello, this EP will feel like familiar terrain, but with its own distinct energy. For an artist who has always blurred the lines between soul-jazz roots and the contemporary club context, this release is another string to the bow of a fusionist who echoes the mindset of Dego & 2000Black, Floating Points, or even the more melodic side of Moodymann in the EP's blend of live instrumentation, deep grooves, and soul-rooted experimentation.

'Honesty' is a clear statement of intent. Built around shifting percussion and warm, layered instrumentation, the track unfolds with a quiet intensity. It holds space for movement and reflection alike, guided by Setwun's unmistakable instinct for rhythm and texture.

Known to many in Sydney's underground scene, Setwun (Josh Panakera-Molony) has spent years shaping his sound from beat tapes and remixes, to his debut EP 'Our World', to live shows with his band The Soulstranauts. Whether producing, DJing or performing live, he moves between genres with ease, always grounded by a strong musical identity.

Extra Soul Perception has been connecting dots between artists in East Africa, the UK, and beyond since 2019 releasing music from names like Azu Tiwaline, Lynda Dawn, Maxwell Owin, K15, Karun, Lex Amor, Mara TK, Xenia Manasseh and many more. Setwun joins this growing list with a release that feels both personal and global in scope.

'Honesty' is released on all digital platforms on July 4th 2025, with the EP to follow later this year.
